Welcome...

With a very bad sense of timing I’ve decided to launch my new blog about cricket on the arguably the most devastating day in the game’s history. I woke this morning to reports of the Sri Lankan team being attacked by gunmen in Lahore, Pakistan. It’s an incredibly sad sorry, not least for the 12 policemen shot dead but also for the future of the game in Pakistan.

It seems highly unlikely that anyone will want to tour to face Younus Khan’s side in the near future and surely the 2011 world cup will be moved from the region. Perhaps what is most shocking about this attack is that sport and politics are thought to be exempt from each other so to see this level of attack is very frightening. What is also sad is the likelihood that Pakistani cricket is likely to be brought to its knees by this and the game will be much the worse for that.

On a lighter note, the aim of this blog, as a current non-commissioned sports writer with a particular passion for the game of cricket, is to write about the game with a healthy dose of humour and no doubt some shameless plugging for anyone who has a spare £2.50…

Enjoy.

All feedback appreciated.
